London Irish LGBT Network are proud to invite you to this FREE event. What a perfect way to finish Pride month. We’re delighted to announce that we will be joined at our virtual meet up on June 28th at 8pm by Tonie Walsh, Archivist, journalist and activist.
Tonie Walsh, has been at the forefront of LGBT civil rights on the island of Ireland since 1979.
He cut his teeth as a journalist at Out magazine, Ireland’s first commercial gay periodical, and in 1988 he co-founded GCN magazine.
In 1997, he reorganised the archive holdings of the National LGBT Federation into what would later become known as the Irish Queer Archive. The collection was transferred to state ownership in 2008.
He recently launched a campaign to build an Irish AIDS Memorial. The campaign is currently at community consultation stage and has the support of local government and Leinster House.
Tonie is currently working on a number of research and writing projects.
It’s our aim to provide a safe space for Irish LGBTQ friends and allies to chat but as we’re in an online world you’re more than welcome to join us no matter where you are located or what your nationality is.
