Friends, we just found out the sad news that our friend and previous Treasurer of the London Irish LGBT Network has died.
Our current Treasurer, Joseph Healy remembers Patrick.
Patrick Curran, who was the Treasurer of the Network died in April of this year but I have only recently heard of his untimely death. Patrick came from near Kells in County Meath and, like many of us, had been living in London since the 1980s. He joined the committee in 2018 and became Treasurer and took part in several social activities with the Network.
He lived in Crystal Palace with his brother and was a much sought-after hairdresser. Patrick suffered from diabetes and this produced major mobility issues with his leg. Unfortunately, this meant he had difficulty getting around sometimes, and this limited his participation in social activities.
He had a wicked sense of humour and enjoyed nothing more than having a laugh with friends. He had a real love of theatre and would often attend pub theatre performances and comedy nights. He introduced me to the Grimeborn Opera Festival at the Arcola Theatre where he had been a regular attendee for many years. Only in his late 50s, his death came far earlier than it should have. He will be missed by the Network and by me.
RIP Patrick.

Pat was born in Ireland but his parents emmigrated to London in the early 1960’s with Pat and hisbrother Michael. His sister was born later in London. Pat was my cousin and we are all heartbroken about him here in Ireland.

Pat you made me laugh out loud when I recovered from your big hug on arrival in Kiernans. Your appreciation of a good Guinness was infectious. Sleep tight pet, I will miss your visits and your joy for life ❤️

Yes I remember well how he liked his Guinness. We went once for a bacon and cabbage lunch in O’Neills in Soho which he liked. Despite his health and disability he always had a big smile!

I didn’t know Patrick but appreciate the work he did for the London Irish LGBT community which still serves as an important connection but I’m sure I would have liked his ‘ wicked sense of humour’……rest in peace Patrick🙏🌈
